Moving from abroad
Are you moving (back) from abroad to the Netherlands? And will you be staying here for longer than 4 months? Then you need to register at the municipality. Do this within 5 days of your move to the Netherlands. Contact us to make an appointment and indicate for how many people you make the appointment. You must visit the town hall in person to register. If your family is moving with you, all family members must come to the appointment.
Registering at the municipality
To make an appointment for your registration at the municipality, call: 072-575 55 55.
When you go to your appointment, you need to bring the following documents:
- A valid passport or ID-card of every person to be registered - nationality from the EU, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or Iceland.
- A valid passport and valid residence permit of every person to be registered - all other nationalities.
- Original documents from abroad of yourself and your children - such as birth certificates, a marriage or divorce certificate, adoption or recognition certificates.
- Proof of deregistration - when you come from Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Saba or Sint Eustatius. (You will receive this proof when you report your departure to the Civil Registry and Population Administration.)
Proof of residence - a signed rental or purchase contract of your home or proof of ownership. Or your proprietor’s permission, for which you need to complete the form 'schriftelijke verklaring van inwoning (pdf, 40 KB)' (signed declaration of residence, pdf in Dutch). Please note: you also need a copy of the identity document of the main resident.
The municipality requires an official translation by a sworn translator of documents that are not drawn up in Dutch, English, French or German. Foreign documents have to meet rules for legalising foreign documents. These rules depend on the country where the documents were issued.
Costs
Registering is free.
How long does it take?
Usually, the municipality can process your registration within 4 weeks. You will receive a letter with confirmation of your registration. This contains an overview of your registered data. This also includes your citizen service number (BSN).
Your registration will be listed in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP).
