Information for Ukrainian refugees (English)
Since February 2022, there has been war in Ukraine. The municipality of Dijk en Waard considers it important to contribute to the protection of refugees from Ukraine. On this page you can find general information for the reception of Ukrainian refugees in Dijk en Waard.

Housing and stay
The municipal reception location in Dijk en Waard is the Transferium building in Heerhugowaard. Around 360 people live here. At this moment its full, as well as most other locations in the Netherlands. Ukrainian refugees can register by email: transferium@dijkenwaard.nl(Verwijst naar een e-mailadres). After registration, we will check if a place is available.

Working in the Netherlands
Ukrainian refugees are allowed to work in the Netherlands if they work for an employer.
If you fall under the Temporary Protection Directive(Verwijst naar een externe website), you do not need a work permit (tewerkstellingsvergunning or twv). However, the employer must inform the authorities.
Before you start working, you must arrange some things. For example:
You must register at the municipality where you live
You must apply for a DigiD
You must open a bank account
Ukrainian refugees can only work as a self-employed person if:
You have a residence permit as a self-employed person, or
Your client has a work permit (twv)
Only under strict rules can Ukrainian refugees work as entrepreneurs in the Netherlands. More information is available on RefugeeHelp(Verwijst naar een externe website).
Are you an employer and do you want to hire a refugee from Ukraine?
As an employer, you must:
Check if the refugee falls under the Temporary Protection Directive(Verwijst naar een externe website)
Inform the UWV that you hire the employee
Enter into an employment contract
In most cases, you do not need to apply for a work permit.
Do you want to give work to a Ukrainian refugee who works as a freelancer? Then you must apply for a work permit (twv).

Ukrainian refugees who do not have enough income can receive a living allowance. This money is for food, clothing, and personal expenses. More information is available at Zaffier.(Verwijst naar een externe website)
